Tryouts for 2009/10 California Cougars Teams

Tier Program

The Cougars are not fielding any Tier Teams in the 2009/2010 season.

Travel Program

The Tryout Information for the Cougars travel teams for the 2009/10 season is final and posted on this page.  Please check the Tryout Dates listed below for dates, times, and location for each team.  The birth years for each team are listed below with each division.

Registration packets for the 2009/2010 Tryouts are available.  Note that the advanced registration fee for all divisions is $75.  Please send your registration packet to (postmarked by July 15, checks made out to ICE COUGARS):

Cougars Registrar
c/o Teresa Attebery
14892 Ridgetop Drive
San Jose, CA 95127

The cost is $100 for all divisions (Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget 16U, and Midget 18U) at the door, and $75 for advanced registration.

This fee covers the opportunity to tryout for the Cougars, and is nonrefundable regardless of how many tryout sessions a player attends.  To participate in tryouts, players must be registered with USA Hockey for the 2009/2010 season.

Midget 16A players will tryout with the Midget 18A, and Midget 16A-eligible players may be selected for the Midget 18A team.

All players are being asked to arrive at least 60 minutes prior to the first tryout session and should try to make as many as tryout sessions as possible.  If any sessions need to be missed, please notify the personnel at the registration desk or contact Chris Hathaway at 650-574-1616.  Attendance at a minimum of one tryout session is mandatory to be selected to a team.  Each player trying out is requested to bring both a dark (black or blue) and a light (white or yellow) jersey to each tryout session.  No NORCAL team jerseys will be allowed.

After the last tryout session, players selected for teams will be given a Commitment Form (Team Commitment Form (.pdf 241k)) which says the player is committing to play for the Cougars this season and the parents are accepting the financial obligation.

Note: program fee for 2009/10 season is TBD.

A portion of the program fee (see ) for the season is due at the time of signing ($250 for Mites, $390 for all other divisions).  Mite Payment Form (.pdf 132k) for the Mite team, or Payment Form (.pdf 132k) for all Travel Teams except Mites

Both the signed Commitment Form and the payment are due on the day of team selection to confirm the player's roster spot.  After that the roster spot will be offered to another player.

Tryouts will be held at the Ice Center of Cupertino (Vallco) for Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee teams, and at the Ice Center of San Mateo (Bridgepointe) for Bantam and Midget teams.  The two exceptions are noted below.

NOTE:  Just a reminder that players trying out cannot owe the Cougars, or any other NORCAL club, any outstanding dues from any previous season.  The information is provided from NORCAL to all clubs and players need to be in good standing prior to being allowed to try out.  Reference 4.13.

USA Hockey Membership - All players that are trying for Cougars travel teams must be currently registered with USA Hockey prior to the tryouts.  For anyone that needs to register, it's all online and it's easy.  Each player must bring proof of membership to tryouts to participate.

Tryout Registration Forms - All players must turn in completed Ice Center Waiver, USA Hockey Release of Liability and USA Hockey Consent to Treat/Medical forms** with their Registration Form, along with the full tryout fee, to be able to participate in the Team Tryouts.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  A copy of the player's birth certificate is also required.

If you would like any of the forms e-mailed to you, contact our .

**Note:  None of the information from these forms is used in the team selection process.  They will only be referred to in the case of emergency.

If clicking on the link or icon for the registration packet doesn't bring up the file correctly, right-click on the link and "Save Target As..." to put the file on your hard drive.

Note that you can fill out the forms online and print them.  You cannot save them. The advantage is that the data is typed and is much more legible and less error-prone.  Also, once you enter a field in one form that is subsequently used in another form, such as the player name, the field is filled in automatically.  Alternatively, you can print the forms and fill them in manually.
